Frank Deeg, Trade Research Consultant

Frank Deeg is a recognized authority in trade analysis and import and export issues with great subject matter expertise on the European Union and Japanese markets.

Following an earlier career with the Iron Ore Company of Canada, Kenting Earth Sciences and Bell-Northern Research, Frank joined the European Commission’s Ottawa Delegation in 1977. For the next 28 years, Frank worked on European Union-Canada relations across a broad spectrum of areas including small business links, the environment, science & technology, higher education & vocational training, strategic technologies such as biotech, information technologies, and telecommunications, as well as helping manage the increasingly complex arena of trans-Atlantic trade and investment relations.  He has an extensive network of contacts in both Canada and Europe, in the federal and provincial governments, the major EU institutions including the European Commission and European Parliament, as well as the private and NGO sectors on both sides of the Atlantic.  He also cultivated numerous contacts in Canada’s academic community and of course in the numerous diplomatic and trade-related representations (embassies, consulates, trade commissions, chambers of commerce) of the EU’s Member States across Canada.

During this time, Frank also established with a Japanese partner a management-consulting firm that provides advice and assistance to business and government clients in both Canada and Japan interested to expand their economic and commercial links across the Pacific.  Clients included the public sectors in both countries, Canadian exporters, Japanese investors, and international trading companies. 

Frank graduated from the University of Waterloo in 1971 with a B.A.Sc in Electrical Engineering and has an MA in International Affairs from the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs.
